Sunningdale House to Develop Princes Parade in Hythe

25 / 05 / 2022

SUNNINGDALE HOUSE DEVELOPMENTSPUBLIC VIEWING OF PRINCES PARADE PLANS TO TAKE PLACE AT TWO-DAY COMMUNITY EVENT

A community engagement event taking place later this month will give Hythe residents a chance to find out more about the next stage of the Princes Parade development.

The project’s latest phase progresses the principles already approved by the earlier outline consent and now focuses on the detailing of the renewed public promenade, hotel, restaurants, landscaped spaces and homes.

Hythe Town Hall will host the two-day community engagement event on Monday, May 30th and Tuesday, May 31st. Sunningdale House Developments, which has acquired the land at Princes Parade, has appointed Hythe-based architects Holloway Studio to deliver the development.

Carl Thomason, Land & Planning Director at Sunningdale House Developments, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be given the opportunity to develop a stretch of coastline that will become focal to the town’s character and prosperity. The community event at Hythe Town Hall is our chance to share our vision for Princes Parade and we urge as many residents as possible to attend. We’re keen to hear their thoughts on the plan being presented, and share our vision for the scheme’s features and amenities.”

The Princes Parade development will occupy a prominent coastal position in Hythe, immediately to the south of the Royal Military Canal, and the Seabrook residential area. The proposed seafront houses will be central to the 14,500m2 site. These will comprise a mix of duplexes and townhouses, with a number of properties designated ‘affordable homes’ to meet local needs. The properties, along with commercial outlets such as a hotel, leisure centre, restaurants and shops, will be set against a landscaped, traffic-free promenade. This innovative design aspect will contribute to a 35% increase in public realm area.

The safety of residents and visitors to the 11-metre-wide promenade will be enhanced with the realignment of Princes Parade highway to an area adjacent to the Royal Military Canal. Work has already started on this element of the project, with a former waste site being cleared of vegetation and its species relocated to another site. An emphasis on biodiversity and minimising net loss of green space is a core aim of this development.

“With the Princes Parade development, we have an opportunity to create something that is unique to Hythe,” Mr. Thomason continued. “We hope the town’s residents will join us on this exciting journey, hence our community event to showcase the council-approved plans. This is a chance for people to shape one of the most prestigious regenerations Hythe has seen in many years.”
